Angela Bassett Almost Missed Oscars Announcement

The iconic actor just made history after she was nominated for a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her role in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

The nod from the Academy marks the first time that any Marvel actor has ever been nominated for an Oscar for a performance in a comic book adaptation.

Following the exciting news, Angela admitted that she almost missed the announcement — even though she was up for half the night!

“I think I went down about 11 p.m. and woke up at 3:45 a.m. on my own, and tried, tried, tried to go back to sleep and just couldn’t,” Angela told the New York Times. “The spigot turned on adrenaline and just flooded me.”

After laying awake for hours, Angela was about to get up to take a walk before quickly realizing she was actually minutes away from the early morning Oscar announcements.

“It’s 5:25 a.m. I was trying to turn the television on, and I couldn’t figure it out. I thought I was going to miss it. I just could not figure out how to get my television on,” Angela explained.

Thankfully, she was able to tune in right on time for the first category, which happened to include her nomination!

“Finally I did and when it started, it’s like, ‘Oh, my gosh, the first category!’ I’m glad I showed up on time,” Angela said.

While Angela says she’s “ecstatic” about the nomination, she added that she’s trying to keep her “feet firmly planted on the ground.”

“It’s been a journey of hard work, wonderful opportunity. Saying yes to what excites you about the work and individuals, and it will always continue to be that way,” Angela shared.

As for her celebratory plans? It’s straight back to set for Angela who says she’s thankful to be able to “put in the work” with her colleagues.

Congratulations again, Angela!
