Kelly Lee Owens was the latest guest on the Song Exploder podcast, where she discussed her Inner Song track “On.” Owens says that she started crafting the song the same day the Prodigy’s Keith Flint died, and that for a long time, the track’s working title was “Spirit of Keith.” She also discusses building the song from a field recording of a train on her phone, the therapeutic qualities of the track, and more. Listen to the full episode below.

Inner Song arrived last month, marking Owens’ follow-up to her 2017 self-titled debut. Read Pitchfork’s Moodboard feature “How Radiohead, Social Media Addiction, and the Ravages of Climate Change Inspired Kelly Lee Owens’ New Album.”
