Game of Thrones: Emilia Clarke Reveals the Truth About Rogue Coffee Cup

Television

When Daenerys Targaryen arrived in Winterfell with Jon Snow, the last thing fans expected her to bring with her was a Starbucks-like coffee cup.

On Game of Thrones Season 8 Episode 4, “The Last of the Starks,” fans were shocked to find a coffee cup next to Emilia Clarke’s alter ego as everyone at Winterfell partied because the Night King’s reign of terror was finally over.

While it was clear that someone was to blame for that coffee cup making its way into a pivotal scene, we haven’t had a concrete answer.

Until now.

Many believed that Clarke was to blame, primarily because the cup was right next to the actress in the scene in question. However, Emilia has officially set the record straight during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

“Here’s the truth,” she said, expounding as follows:

“We had like a party before the Emmys recently, and Conleth [Hill], who plays Varys, who’s sitting next to me in that scene, he pulls me aside and he’s like, ‘Emilia, I’ve got to tell you something. I’ve got to tell you something, love. The coffee cup was mine!’ It was his! It was Conleth’s coffee cup. He said so.”

So, it looks like Varys was scheming against Daenerys all along!

Hill was understandably saddened by the ordeal, according to Emilia.

“He’s like, ‘I think so, I’m sorry darling, I didn’t want to say anything because it seemed [like] the heat was very much on you.’ And I was like, ‘What?!’ …He might have been drunk, but he said it.”

Fans were shocked that the cup managed to make its way into the final cut of the episode which aired on HBO.

“The latte that appeared in the episode was a mistake,” HBO said at the time. Daenerys had ordered an herbal tea.”

The premium cabler followed that up by modifying the episode to remove the cup.
