Lizzo was a “late bloomer”!
The About Damn Time singer appeared on Tuesday’s episode of the Friends Keep Secrets podcast, where she told hosts Lil Dicky, Benny Blanco, and Kristin Batalucco she was a virgin until WAY more recently than you may have expected! She dished:
“Here’s the thing about me, I told y’all how I grew up. I was the nerdy, big girl that nobody liked. I was content with going my whole life single. Like, I was prepared to never get married, be a virgin forever, like, I was fully prepared.”
Later in the podcast while speaking more about virginity, the Truth Hurts singer dished:
“I was a late bloomer. It’s so embarrassing. I lied about it for a long time.”

She revealed she didn’t lose her virginity until 2020, which would have made her roughly 31 years old! OMG! But there was a very specific and career-motivated reason why:
“I wasn’t even thinking about it. For me, it was just, like, I promised myself when I was younger that I wouldn’t have sex until I won a Grammy.”
What! That’s a HUGE bet to take on yourself! But hats off to her setting her mind to something so coveted and actually achieving it! In 2020, Lizzo memorably won Best Urban Contemporary Album and Best Traditional R&B Performance. Always bet on yourself!
But just to play devil’s advocate, Lil Dicky asked if she would have stuck to her rule had she not ever won a Grammy — and she responded:
“Who knows.”
She did, however, confirm “it was not the night of the Grammys” that she lost her virginity, but didn’t specify when — because when she did win, sex was the last thing on her mind:
“I wasn’t even thinking about that. I didn’t even know that it was in my cards, I wasn’t really even set up for that.”
Reminiscing about the challenges that came with her truth, she continued:
“It was so embarrassing, I was in a friend group of girls, we were all girling one night, and it was just like, ‘Wait, Lizzo, are you a virgin?’ And I was like, ‘I remember being like, *scoffs* no! I remember, it was so embarrassing, I said, ‘I love the D.’ I said that. It was so f**king embarrassing. I was like, ‘I love the D,’ and it held me over for a while.’”
The Cuz I Love You singer went on to reveal that she didn’t have her first kiss until she was 21, and that her reluctance for physical romance was also partially rooted in religion. Candidly, the now-37-year-old admitted she “used to lie” about it because it was “so embarrassing” — but noted it felt like a “weight” had been lifted off her chest in owning her truth. The artist has now been dating Myke Wright since 2021.
