General Hospital is digging deep into Anna Devane’s past, and Finola Hughes is clearly enjoying the ride. The longtime soap favorite recently opened up about Anna’s unexpected and unsettling reunion with her dead nemesis, Cesar Faison. Even without sharing the screen physically, the moment brought decades of history rushing back and gave Hughes a rare chance to revisit one of the show’s most twisted dynamics.

On General Hospital, Anna ends up in a nightmare after Sidwell and his secret ally, WSB agent Ross Cullum, take her captive. To really play with her mind, they try to convince her that her old enemy, Cesar Faison, still lives. The threat to Anna is intense, but behind the scenes, the storyline gave Finola Hughes an unusual acting experience.
Even though Anders Hove wasn’t physically there, Hughes still got to play off his performance. Hove recorded Faison’s lines all the way from Denmark, and his voice was played live on set during filming. She called the experience “nuts,” adding that it honestly felt like acting with him again, even with miles between them ( via Soap Opera Digest).
Hughes and Hove go way back off-screen, too. They’ve stayed close ever since Faison was written off the show in 2018. Hughes even ran into him in Amsterdam in 2024 while visiting former co-star Anthony Geary, and she couldn’t hide the love. “I love him so,” she said, calling Hove one of her all-time favorite scene partners. That real-life bond made it easier to take on the heavy emotions their scenes demanded.
As for Anna and Faison, their history stretches back decades. Their connection started years before Anna ever set foot in Port Charles in 1985. The show later revealed that they met when Anna was young, then crossed paths again. Over time, Faison’s fixation on Anna went off the rails, from writing books inspired by her to even pretending to be her husband, Duke Lavery. His twisted run finally ended in 2018 when Jason shot him, and Anna herself confirmed he was gone at the morgue.
