Greta Gerwig is a Sacramento native and used the California city as a setting in her 2017 hit Lady Bird. According to Gerwig, not only would she like to return to the city for future films, she’d like to revisit it in the world of Lady Bird, too.
Speaking during a Q&A session recently, Gerwig was asked if she would like to return to the world of Lady Bird, and make a series of films in the life of the character. The director said she hadn’t thought of something like that, but would love to due to her love of actress Saoirse Ronan.
“I haven’t thought about it that way, although part of me would love to, because I love Saoirse as an actor, and I love the character,” said Gerwig. “And the character’s both very intimate to me, and…I wasn’t like that, but it’s almost like the person I wish I am, but I wasn’t anywhere near that confident in myself.”
Gerwig has more films featuring Sacramento planned
Gerwig said she’d be open to revisiting the film, but also is definitely planning to have more films featured in the city of Sacramento, and already has a few ideas in the works.
“I would revisit it. I know I definitely want to make more films in Sacramento, that’s something I know I wanna do. I have a vague idea for two other ones. So that’s gonna happen. So stay tuned for the Sacramento trilogy,” Gerwig joked.
Currently, Gerwig is enjoying the massive success of her last film, Barbie. The film was not only a global box office hit (raking in more than $1.4 billion total), but has also received a ton of award nominations. Recently, the film won two Golden Globe awards, including Best Original Song.
