Rock Hall Fixes Oasis’ Lineup Oversight, Will Induct Paul “Guigsy” McGuigan

The world may often be a cold, dark place, but at least now there’s #JusticeForGuigsy.

The fella in question is Paul “Guigsy” McGuigan, co-founder and original bassist of the seminal Oasis. He played with Oasis from 1991 to 1999, and appears on the band’s most essential records: 1994’s Definitely Maybe, 1995’s (What’s the Story) Morning Glory?, and 1997’s Be Here Now.

Given Guigsy’s supreme importance to the band, and his role in Britpop as a whole, you’d think he would’ve been honored right alongside the rest of Oasis as part of the 2026 class of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Only, as Rolling Stone pointed out, ol’ Guigsy wasn’t initially listed as a member of the band’s induction roster. Meanwhile, Tony McCarroll, who drummed for Oasis from 1991 to 1995, was included in the same induction announcement. Yet another instance of wanton disrespect to bassists everywhere, yeah?

Now, thanks the countless cries of “Umm, actually…” from music nerds everywhere, the mistake has been fixed in a staggering two days, and Guigsy is included on the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’s website as an inductee. (The actual reasons could have been a simple clerical mistake being addressed, or the result of intervention from the Oasis camp.) Either way, the world seems a slightly brighter place for Guigsy’s inclusion.

Not that we think he’ll likely show up for the big event. Per reports at the time, Guigsy apparently quit Oasis via fax, and now spends his time as both a family man and a hardcore football fam. (He’s even co-written a book, The Greatest Footballer You Never Saw, about England’s Robin Friday.) Still, let’s hope he does join Liam Gallagher to celebrate — right alongside all the “wankers…and BUMBACLARTS.”

This year’s other Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees include Wu-Tang Clan, Phil Collins, Joy Division/New Order, Sade, Iron Maiden, Billy Idol, and Luther Vandross. The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’s 2026 induction ceremony will take place at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on Saturday, November 14th. A recording will then debut in December on both ABC and Disney+.
