Disney+ Developing New Series – TVLine

They live again! A live-action adaptation of the popular animated series Gargoyles is being developed at Disney+, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Gary Dauberman, known for penning the Annabelle franchise among other big-screen horror hits, will reportedly write and serve as Gargoyles‘ showrunner, executive-producing alongside James Wan and Michael Clear’s Atomic Monster.

The original animated series, which aired for three seasons on ABC and in syndication from 1994 to 1997, followed a clan of ancient gargoyles led by Goliath (voiced by Keith David), living and battling in present-day New York City.

Actually, we’ll let Goliath’s iconic opening monologue explain the rest: “One thousand years ago, superstition and the sword ruled. It was a time of darkness. It was a world of fear. It was the age of gargoyles. Stone by day, warriors by night, We were betrayed by the humans we had sworn to protect, frozen in stone by a magic spell for a thousand years. Now, here in Manhattan, the spell is broken, and we live again! We are defenders of the night! We are gargoyles!”

All 78 episodes of the original Gargoyles series are currently available to stream on Disney+. Hit PLAY on the title sequence below for a taste of what we’re in for, then drop a comment with your feelings about this live-action adaptation.
